This is a superb L&G Stickley early narrow two door bookcase from 1902/03 in excellent condition. The piece has a great original fume black finish, close to pristine condition. (Please take note that it is hard to take an accurate picture of fume black. The finish looks much nicer in person.)
This case was crafted with through tenon construction and the doors were crafted with a mullion construction (see pictures). Each door is made up of 8 individual panes of glass, and not 1 big piece of glass. The glass is hand blown. It is rare to find glass as beautiful as this.
The cabinet has the original hardware, as you can see in the pictures. This piece uses the round, metal hardware that Gustav Stickley used in 1902/03. This case is extremely heavy, with very thick boards, and through tenon construction on each side. The 36″ width includes the tenon. It also has a beautiful tall gallery on the top.
Although some of the pictures look like the piece is golden oak, it is fume black.
This is one of the most expensive Gustav Stickley bookcases we have ever purchased. It came from an important collection in New York.
